Lost your house, crop or livestock? Punjab CM launches flood rehabilitation programme

Winter is on its way therefore arrangements are being made for the victims right now, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said at the launch of the flood rehabilitation programme on Saturday.

Speaking at the ceremony, Maryam said those who served the suffering humanity were the best friends of Allah. She took oath from volunteers of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and said that volunteers’ relief activities in flood-hit areas were commendable.

She said the Punjab government would give Rs1 million each to people whose houses were swept away by floodwaters. The flood-hit farmers, who had cultivated up to 12 acres of agricultural land, will get Rs20,000 per acre compensation. Those who lost their livestock will also be compensated.

She said 25 cities were severely affected by the worst floods in Punjab. She said that severe floods in Sutlej, Ravi and Chenab rivers caused huge destruction. She said that Punjab became the first province to evacuate 2.5 million people before the flood.

She said that ministers and the entire administrative machinery worked day and night in the flood hit areas. She said that flood-hit people were served three meals a day with dignity and two million liters of clean water were delivered to the affected areas.
