Cancer specialist infected by coronavirus in Karachi

Dr Shiraz, the in-charge of cancer ward at Civil Hospital in Karachi, was tested positive for coronavirus, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Tuesday, on a day when the virus was also found in the medical superintendent of a health facility in Quetta.
The oncologist was directed by the hospital administration to stay in quarantine at his home for 14 days.
Meanwhile, the administration also decided to conduct the tests of those nurses and staff members who have been working with the infected doctor.
Earlier, it was reported that coronavirus had been found in a female staff member working Sindh Government Children’s Hospital North Nazimabad.
The midwife was associated with the paediatric intensive care unit of the hospital.
As a result, the administration conducted tests of another 27 staff members but all of them tested negative for the virus.

The latest reports about the coronavirus infections among the healthcare professionals in Karachi came the doctors and nurses have been very critical of the government for relaxing the lockdown and not providing the personal care equipment.
Also on Tuesday, Quetta’s Fatima Jinnah Hospital MS Dr Noorullah Musakhel quarantined himself at his home after testing positive for the virus.
Last week, a senior health professional, Dr Prof Muhammad Javed died of coronavirus at Hayatabad Medical Complex, the very facility where he had been working, in Peshawar.
On Monday, the number of doctors infected by coronavirus in the federal capital jumped to 15 as another healthcare professional working at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) was tested positive.
