The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday rejected the federal government and Defence Ministry’s reply in a case involving deaths of civilians in an airstrike in Khyber Agency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Maqbool Baqar of the Supreme Court heard the case. Hearing the case, Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel told the federal government and the Defence Ministry to satisfy the court with the documentary evidence in this case. He said the written reply of the government and the Defence Ministry was not accompanied by supporting documents.
An airstrike in Khyber Agency allegedly targeted the civilian population and killed several people. The Peshawar High Court had directed the government to pay Rs1 million compensation per victim to families of those who lost lives in these airstrikes. However, the federal government filed an appeal against the decision in the Supreme Court. The court sought a detailed report on the case and adjourned the case indefinitely.
