India cannot suspend Indus Waters Treaty unilaterally, says ex-AGP

Speaking about the legal aspects of the Indus Waters Treaty, former attorney-general for Pakistan (AGP) and senior legal expert Ashtar Ausaf said on Monday that India could never unilaterally suspend the treaty, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

In a statement, he said that the World Bank (WB) was the guarantor of the treaty under which it had been agreed that Pakistan would have a share in the waters of the River Jhelum and the River Sutlej.  

He further said that India used the Pahalgam attack as an excuse to suspend the treaty. “This is despite the fact that Pakistan has nothing to do with the incident,” he asserted.
