Plea filed in IHC for urgent hearing on Bushra Bibi’s sentence suspension amid health concerns

A miscellaneous application has been filed in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking an early hearing and decision on the appeal for suspension of sentence of Bushra Bibi in the £190 million case, citing urgent medical grounds, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Tuesday.

The application urges the court to take up the matter on priority and decide the appeal on merit, stating that Bushra Bibi recently underwent eye surgery and requires immediate post-operative care.

It has been requested that the Superintendent of Jail and the head of Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital be summoned along with complete medical records.

According to the petition, Bushra Bibi should be immediately shifted to Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital in Rawalpindi for proper medical supervision following the surgery. The application further alleges that the procedure was conducted without prior intimation to her legal counsel or family members.

The petition claims that Bushra Bibi’s daughters only learned about the surgery during a jail meeting, raising concerns over lack of communication by prison authorities. It also alleges that she has been kept in solitary confinement after the operation and is not being provided adequate medical care or nursing facilities inside the jail.

Additionally, the application contends that jail authorities failed to comply with a court order dated April 7, 2026, by not allowing her lawyer to meet her. It also highlights that a hearing scheduled for April 23 was cancelled due to a security lockdown, resulting in further delay in the case.

The applicant has urged the court to intervene urgently, ensure proper medical treatment, and expedite the hearing of the sentence suspension appeal.
