Rain brings respite for heat-stricken people of Punjab, Sindh

Rain lashed different parts of the country on Tuesday, bringing much-needed relief to the people enduring intense heat as well as loadshedding for the last several days, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Rain in several areas of Sindh and Punjab, including Lahore, turned the weather pleasant.

It rained cats and dogs in Gujranwala, Shikarpur and Daharki.

Similarly, there are also reports of rain from Kharian, Uch Sharif, Multan and other cities.

A motorcyclist was killed in Lodhran when a tree, uprooted by strong winds, fell on him.

Lahore receives rain

Different localities of Lahore received light to moderate rainfall.

Allama Iqbal Town received 15.6 millimeters of rain.

Similarly, 10.4 millimeters of rain was recorded at Nishtar Town, 7.8 millimeters in Samanabad, 4.4 millimeters in Gulshan-e-Ravi, 2.8 millimeters at Lakshmi Chowk and Gulberg each, 2 millimeters at Jail Road, 1.4 millimeters at Saggian, one millimeter in Shadipura, 0.8 millimeter of rain at The Mall, and 0.4 millimeter of rain at Tajpura and Mughalpura each.

Breeze was blowing in the provincial capital at the speed of 13 kilometers per hour, while the level of moisture in the air stood at 54 per cent.

Islamabad likely to receive showers

Islamabad is likely to receive rain during the next 24 hours.

The minimum temperature in the federal capital on Tuesday morning was recorded at 25 degrees Celsius, while it was expected to rise to 37 degrees Celsius in the afternoon.

Met Office issues heatwave alert for Karachi

Climate change is adversely affecting Pakistan as some parts are receiving rain, there is heat in others.

The Met Office has already predicted that the phenomenon of El Nino will start affecting the country as early as in May.

Under the impact of the system, above average temperatures are expected in the country during these summers.

These days, Karachi is in the grip of extreme heat and humidity, prompting the weather department to issue heatwave alert for the port city.

The department forecast that the maximum temperature in the city would be recorded at 37 degrees Celsius, while it would like 40-41 degrees Celsius.

Winds were blowing from the west at the speed of 15 kilometers per hour.

The level of moisture in the air was recorded at 75 per cent.

It also forecast that temperatures would increase by four to six degrees in different parts of the country in the next few days.

More rains forecast

The Met Office forecast thundershowers, accompanied by strong winds, for upper KP, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Islamabad, Potohar region of Punjab, southern and eastern Punjab during the next 24 hours.
