TTAP condemns IHC judges’ transfer, calls move ‘blow to judicial independence’

The Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan (TTAP) has strongly condemned the recent transfer of judges from the Islamabad High Court, terming it a serious threat to the independence of the judiciary.

In a statement, TTAP described the move as a violation of the constitutional principle of separation of powers and alleged that it was an attempt to make the judiciary subordinate to the government.

The alliance warned that such actions could revive “old methods” of targeting political opponents through administrative measures like judicial transfers.

The group declared the “forced transfer” of judges from the Islamabad High Court as unacceptable and called for immediate reconsideration of the decision. It further urged the legal community to take a clear and firm stance against what it termed an unconstitutional step.

TTAP also appealed to the Islamabad Bar and the Bar Council to come forward and play their role in safeguarding the credibility and independence of judicial institutions.

At the same time, the opposition alliance expressed support for the position taken by Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi, stating that his stance was in line with the spirit of the Constitution.
