Minister promises further cut in electricity tariff before summer

Federal Minister for Energy Awais Leghari has promised that there would be a further reduction in electricity tariff before the summer, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Saturday, Awais Leghari said the government was determined to further lower the electricity prices before the coming summer. 

Awais Leghari further said that the electricity prices were significantly reduced from June till now. 

The energy minister said the government has terminated contracts with five independent power producers (IPPs) and this way the government had saved Rs238 billion. 

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved restructuring of electricity transmission system, Awais Leghari said and added the energy sector will come out of crisis in the next four years. 

Awais Leghari said the government will not be responsible for buying and selling electricity in March 2025.

Rahim Yar Khan and Matiari projects will be completed in next two years, Awais Leghari said.

He said the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) created instability in the country. 

A campaign was being carried out against the government on social media at the behest of the founder of PTI, Awais Leghari maintained.
