Pakistani Mona Khan sets Guinness World Record at London Marathon 2025

Pakistani anchor and journalist Mona Khan has made history by achieving a Guinness World Record at the London Marathon 2025, becoming the first Pakistani female journalist to complete the prestigious race and bringing global recognition to the country.

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, she completed the full marathon distance of 42.2 kilometres within the stipulated time, proving that Pakistani women can compete with the best on the world stage.

Mona Khan ran alongside Coach Muhammad Yousuf, a Kashmiri international marathon runner, whose mentorship played a key role in her success.

Mona Khan’s journey began at the end of 2023, when she became the first Pakistani female journalist to run the historic Athens Marathon in Greece, one of the world’s most demanding races.

At a time when marathon running in Pakistan was largely viewed as a male-dominated arena, she dared to dream bigger.

Inspired by Muhammad Yousuf, she believed that if male national athletes could represent Pakistan globally, a woman journalist could do the same.

Despite facing skepticism and criticism, including remarks that running 42.2 kilometres was merely “showing off”, Mona remained resolute and turned every doubt into determination.

In 2024, the duo completed major international marathons, including the TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon in Canada and another challenging race in Italy.

Mona’s 2025 campaign began with a milestone run in Dubai, setting the stage for her triumph in London.

Her path was marked by challenges, including an injury ahead of the London Marathon and the emotional burden of leaving her young son, Mustafa, behind in Pakistan.

She also made personal sacrifices, cutting her long hair for ease in training and enduring intense physical strain, yet she remained focused on her goal.

During the London Marathon, Mona Khan proudly carried Pakistan’s green and white flag and finished ahead of an Indian competitor, adding symbolic significance to her achievement.

Her story stands as a reflection of resolve, sacrifice and the indomitable spirit of Pakistani women.

Completing the London Marathon against all odds, Mona Khan is now being recognised internationally alongside Coach Muhammad Yousuf, whose unwavering support guided her journey.

Her historic victory has reaffirmed that Pakistani women possess the strength and ability to excel and overcome challenges in every field of life.
