Railway Police return Rs 3.8m cash to passenger, win public praise

The Karachi Division of Pakistan Railway Police earned widespread appreciation after demonstrating exemplary honesty by recovering and returning a passenger’s luggage containing Rs 3.8 million in cash, 24NewsHD TV reported on Sunday. 

According to Pakistan Railways officials, the incident occurred on December 26 when a passenger, Mohsin Mushtaq, was travelling from Karachi to Toba Tek Singh aboard the Pakistan Express.

 During the journey, he temporarily disembarked at Hyderabad station for personal reasons.

However, the train departed while he was away, leaving his luggage behind.

The abandoned bag contained a large sum of cash amounting to approximately Rs 3.8 million.

While performing routine duties on the train, Constable Rao Sharif noticed the unattended bag and immediately secured it to prevent any loss or theft.

Shortly afterwards, Mohsin Mushtaq reported the missing luggage at the Railway Police Station, where officials informed him that the bag had already been recovered and was being kept safely.

The passenger later travelled to Rohri aboard the Karakoram Express. At the Rohri Railway Help Centre, and in the presence of a sub-inspector, Mohsin Mushtaq successfully identified his luggage. The cash was counted and verified on the spot, confirming the full amount of Rs 3.8 million, after which the bag was formally handed over to him.

The incident has been widely lauded as a strong example of honesty and dedication to duty, reinforcing public trust in law enforcement institutions.
