IHC sends notice to federal govt in Election (Amend) Act case

The Islamabad High Court has sent a notice to the federal government asking it to submit its reply by March 2015 in the Election Act (Amendment) Ordinance case, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The court also sent notices to the secretary of the President and attorney general of Pakistan.

IHC Justice Amir Farooq on Monday heard a petition filed by Sardar Mehtab against the Election Act (Amendment) Ordinance.

The court sent notices to the federal government, president’s secretary and asked Attorney General Khalid Jawed Khan to help the court in the case.

Advocate Adil Aziz Qazi appeared before the court to represent the petitioner.

Qazi said that a law was amended through an ordinance but there was no emergency to promulgate it through an ordinance.

“When parliament is there then why the ordinance was promulgated,” he argued.

He said that by amending the law, the public office holders were allowed to participate in the election campaigns.

After hearing his arguments, the court adjourned the hearing till March 15.
