Indian delegation arrives in Pakistan to hold water talks

February 28, 2022 02:04 PM

The Indian Indus Water Commissioner on Monday reached Lahore via Wagah border along with his delegation, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Indian Indus Water Commissioner PK Saxena arrived here along with his 10-member technical team to participate in the annual meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Mehr Ali Shah to be held tomorrow in Islamabad.

According to sources, during their meeting, a 12-megawatt wind turbine power project planned by India on Indus River would be discussed. The under-construction 19-megawatt Durbuk Shyok Hydro Power project launched by India would also be discussed.

Delegations of both the countries would hold talks on India’s planned 24-megawatt Nimu Chilling power project.

Apart from the Indus River basin, India does have river systems like Ganges and Brahmaputra.

Sources revealed that the Pakistani Indus Water Commissioner wrote a letter to his Indian counterpart inviting him to the annual session.

The Indian delegation will stay in Islamabad till March 4.

It is pertinent to mention here that it will be the first meeting after Pakistan raised objections to the Indian water projects including Pakal Dul, Lower Kulnai, Durbuk Shyok and Nimu Chilling.

Pakistan asked India to share data of water flows as per the agreement of the Indus Water Treaty following the practice in vogue since 1989. Pakistan seeks early resolution of the outstanding issues in accordance with the provisions of the treaty.
