A speeding car ran over homeless people sleeping on the footpath killing two of them and injuring three others near Nagan Bridge in Karachi late Tuesday night, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

Rescue officials said the accident occurred near the Nagan Pull where a car skidded off the road and ran over people sleeping on a footpath, As a result, two people lost their lives.

According to police, the dead and injured were all brothers and belonged to Hindu community. The deceased were identified as Bale and Ashok while injured were named as Siri Ram, Sita Ram and Lale.

According to police, two people were in the car and they were drunk, who later left their car behind and fled from the scene on foot.

The police have launched a search operation to hunt down the accused.

More than 1,400 people lost their lives and over 18,000 were wounded in road accidents in Karachi in 2023.
