Grade-21 officer challenges political influence in bureaucratic transfers

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday heard a petition filed by Grade-21 officer Shehzadi Shah Bano Ghaznavi, challenging her continued status as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD). Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan presided over the case.

The court granted FBR’s lawyer time until next Tuesday to submit a detailed response to judicial inquiries. In compliance with the court’s order, the concerned FBR officer and legal representative appeared before the bench.

During the hearing, Shehzadi Shah Bano Ghaznavi alleged that she was a victim of gender-based discrimination, stating, "I am being treated unfairly solely because I am a woman."

On this, Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan remarked, "This is not just happening to women; even judges face the same treatment!" His comment sparked laughter in the courtroom.

The petitioner further argued, "I have come to the court as a last resort. I am a senior officer who works independently, but all postings and transfers are being made on political grounds."

Responding to her statement, Justice Ejaz Ishaq Khan replied, "I don’t have a magic wand to change the country’s situation overnight." He then ordered FBR’s lawyer to submit a comprehensive response, adjourning the hearing until next Tuesday.

It is worth mentioning that Shehzadi Shah Bano Ghaznavi has also requested a promotion from Grade 21 to Grade 22, urging her inclusion in the High Power Board’s consideration list.
