The Meteorological Department has predicted that a new rain-bearing system will enter Pakistan on Saturday, bringing rain and snowfall to many cities, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 

The system will be laced with rains and snowfall in different parts of the country. The rains-giving system is expected to remain active for two days. The Met Office said that during these days landsliding could also occur. 

Meanwhile, a severe cold wave persisted in northern areas of the country. Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley and Swat were covered with white snow blanket. Mercury in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan is below zero after fresh snowfall. 

The Met Office has predicted fresh rains and snowfall in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from tomorrow. These rains and snowfall could continue till Sunday night. 

The PDMA Director General has asked the departments concerned to take necessary steps and precautionary measures well in advance in view of the expected rains, hailstorm, snowfall and land sliding. 

The connecting roads in northern areas could be blocked due to snowfall and land sliding, said PDMA. The roads in Malakand and Hazara Division could also be choked after snowfall. The PDMA DG has asked the district administrations to ensure the availability of light and heavy machinery. 

The Met Office has also forecast light rain in central and northern parts of the KP province for next three days. The plain areas could receive hailstorms along with rains. PDMA has said that tourists must be kept informed about the evolving situation. The temperature in Peshawar is likely to be 6 degree Celsius.  

Meanwhile, the Met Office has predicted rains for Lahore on Sunday and Monday. At present city’s temperature is 10 degree Celsius. Lahore has again got first position in terms of the most polluted cities of the world. The Met Office said minimum and maximum temperatures of the city will remain 5 and 20 degree Celsius respectively. At present, the collective air quality index (AQI) of the city is recorded at 216. The AQI was recorded at 334 in Shahdara, 277 in Kot Lakhpat, 259 in Phase VIII (DHA), 252 in Omer Block, Allama Iqbal Town and 234 in Canal Bank area.
