Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel have gunned down three Fitna al-Khwarij hardcore terrorists affiliated with banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) during a shootout in Karachi, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.

One of the slain terrorists was the mastermind of the November 2024 attack on Chinese engineers in Karachi.

The operation was conducted after intelligence suggested that members of the banned militant outfit were hiding in a house located in Manghopir area of the megacity.

As the police surrounded their hideout, the suspects engaged the raiding officers in an intense exchange of fire, resulting in the death of all the three terrorists.

Speaking to reporters outside Civil Hospital, CTD DSP Raja Umar Khattab confirmed that two of the dead suspects had been identified as Zafran and Qudratullah.

"Zafran had a bounty of Rs20 million placed on his head by the government, while the third suspect has yet to be identified," Khattab added.

According to the CTD, one of the slain militants was a would-be suicide bomber. Officials believe he was involved in last year’s attack on Chinese nationals in Karachi.

Explosives, suicide vests, hand grenades, and a diary listing potential targets were recovered from the house. A bomb disposal squad completed a search of the premises after the operation.

DSP Khattab confirmed that all the militants inside the house were killed and that the authorities were now gathering information about the owner of the property where the TTP terror suspects had been hiding for a while.

Khattab said that the operation was jointly carried out by the CTD and personnel of intelligence agencies.

On November 5 last year, two Chinese nationals were shot at and wounded by a private security guard in a textile mill in Karachi’s SITE area. At that time, investigators had suspected that it was a targeted attack.

AIG CTD Azad Khan told media men: “A terrorist who masterminded an attack on Chinese engineers in November last year has been killed during an operation in Karachi’s Manghopir area.”

Azam Khan said the slain terrorist was identified as Zafran, while two of his accomplices were also killed in the operation.
