US Chargé d'Affaires meets FM Aurangzeb to discuss bilateral ties
US Chargé d'Affaires Elizabeth Horst called on Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, at the Ministry of Finance on Thursday to discuss matters of mutual interest and reaffirm the continued momentum in Pakistan-US bilateral relations.
During the meeting, FM Aurangzeb expressed gratitude for the United States' longstanding support in Pakistan’s economic development and appreciated Washington’s backing over the past 18 months in helping stabilize Pakistan’s macroeconomic environment. He expressed satisfaction over the deepening collaboration between the two nations across various sectors.
Reflecting on his recent visit to Washington, Senator Aurangzeb described his meetings with US Secretary of Commerce Howard Luttnick and US Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer as highly productive, particularly in advancing discussions on trade and economic cooperation.
He noted that the United States is Pakistan’s largest trading partner and emphasized Islamabad’s intent to broaden bilateral engagement beyond traditional sectors by expanding cooperation in areas such as information technology, minerals, and agriculture to create a more robust partnership. The finance minister also briefed the US envoy on Pakistan’s improved macroeconomic indicators, enhanced sovereign ratings, and growing investor confidence.
He highlighted the government’s reform agenda, particularly in taxation and energy, aimed at ensuring sustainable economic growth. Furthermore, he discussed Pakistan’s successful entry into Middle Eastern capital markets, plans for launching its first Panda Bond, and future initiatives for tapping into Euro and US dollar markets.
Chargé d'Affaires Horst commended Pakistan’s economic progress and reform-oriented policies, reaffirming the United States' commitment to strengthening economic and trade ties.
She assured continued US support for Pakistan’s political and economic stability and expressed optimism about the future of bilateral trade relations. Both sides reiterated their commitment to fostering a stronger and more sustainable partnership in the future.
