Over 34,000 cross into Pakistan from Iran via Taftan Border

More than 34,000 people crossed into Pakistan from Iran through the Taftan border as tensions in the Middle East increased cross-border movement.

The figures were released by the UN Refugee Agency and the International Organisation for Migration for the period between March 1 and July 16, 2026.

Over 21,000 Iranian nationals entered Pakistan after obtaining Pakistani visas, while more than 13,000 Pakistani nationals also crossed the border during the same period.

The report further revealed that 99 third-country nationals also entered Pakistan via the Taftan crossing.

Another notable influx of Iranian nationals entered Pakistan through the Taftan border on May 24.

The international agencies linked the rise in cross-border movement to regional tensions involving Iran, the United States and Israel, which have urged thousands of people to leave Iran for Pakistan this year.
