Customs foil currency smuggling bid at Karachi airport

Pakistan Customs officials have foiled an alleged currency smuggling attempt at Jinnah International Airport, recovering $55,000 and Rs950,000 from six passengers travelling to Dubai.

According to customs officials, the passengers had not declared the cash at the airport’s currency declaration counter.

Officials said the amount being taken out of the country exceeded the limit prescribed by the State Bank of Pakistan.

The foreign and local currency was seized under the Customs Act, 1969, while further investigation into the case is underway.

Pakistan Customs said it would further strengthen enforcement measures against currency smuggling at airports and other exit points.
