SC rejects plea seeking bail cancellation of Parvez Elahi in illegal recruitment case
The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday dismissed the Punjab government’s petition, seeking cancellation of the bail of former Punjab chief minister and PTI President Chaudhry Parvez Elahi in illegal recruitments case, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
A month back, the indictment of the former Punjab CM and other accused in the case was deferred after the former chief minister failed to appear before the court due to health reasons.
During the hearing, counsel for Chaudhry Parvez Elahi submitted a medical certificate, informing the court that his client was unable to attend proceedings owing to illness.
In June 2023, the Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) had registered an FIR against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Chaudhry Parvez Elahi for allegedly making illegal appointments of blue-eyed individuals in the assembly secretariat.
Others booked in the FIR were a key aide of Chaudhry Parvez and former Punjab Assembly secretary, Muhammad Khan Bhatti, former Punjab Assembly coordination secretary Rai Mumtaz Hussain Babar, PA&R DG Inayatullah Lak and others.
They had been accused of appointing 12 employees illegally in basic pay scale (BPS) grade-17 at the Punjab Assembly.
