Quetta shooting leaves Karachi businessman dead, wife seriously hurt

A Karachi resident was killed and his wife critically injured after unidentified gunmen opened fire on their vehicle in the Dasht area on the outskirts of Quetta, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.
According to Quetta police, the family, residents of Nazimabad in Karachi, was travelling to Quetta in a private vehicle when they reportedly lost their way and reached the Khand area of Dasht after being misdirected during the journey.
Sources said armed assailants opened fire on the vehicle, killing family head Ali Jameel on the spot and seriously injuring his wife.
The couple’s two children, who were also travelling in the vehicle, remained unharmed.
The incident reportedly occurred late on Wednesday night. Authorities later shifted the victim’s body and the injured woman to Karachi.
Sources said Ali Jameel was associated with the mobile phone business in Karachi.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the motive behind the attack and identify those responsible.
Large number of traders attend funeral prayers in Karachi
The funeral prayer for Ali Murtaza has been offered in Karachi this afternoon, where a large number of members of the business community, relatives and friends gathered to pay their respects.
Speaking after the funeral, Minhaj Gulfam, President of the Karachi Mobile and Electronic Dealers Association, said that Ali Murtaza had travelled to Quetta with his family to spend the Muharram holidays.
According to Gulfam, the businessman stayed in Quetta during the visit and was returning with his family when he reportedly lost his way after receiving incorrect location guidance.
He said that when the family reached the Dasht area, unidentified terrorists opened fire on their vehicle.
Dasht is a remote area of Balochistan located south of Quetta and is known for its rugged terrain and scattered rural settlements.
"Dasht" primarily refers to three distinct locations in Balochistan, Pakistan: an administrative tehsil in Mastung District, a tehsil in Kech District, and the major Dasht River.
