PIA launches direct flights from Lahore to Skardu

Taking another step to boost tourism in the country, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has decided to start direct flights from Lahore to Skardu, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday, quoting sources.

The PIA Headquarters in Karachi has directed the administration in Lahore to initiate preparations for launching the first direct flight from Lahore to Skardu on April 6 and the second on April 10.

The airline will initially operate two weekly flights from Lahore to Skardu, the PIA Lahore administration said, adding the one-way ticket will cost Rs7,500.

According to the sources, the PIA will use Airbus-320 for Lahor-Skardu operation.

It may be mentioned here that the PIA had revived its flight operation from Swat Airport on Friday last after a gap of 17 years. 

The first PIA flight, PK-650, carrying Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Mahmood Khan and federal ministers Murad Saeed and Ghulam Sarwar and PIA CEO, had touched down at the Saidu Sharif Airport Friday morning. 

Before the resumption of flight operation at Swat Airport, the runway was restored to its original position while the operational staff was also deputed.  

Federal Minister for Communications and Postal Services Murad Saeed had said that the resumption of flight operation at Saidu Sharif Airport after 17 years was a historic and memorable occasion for the people of Swat.
