Number game: PTI coalition govt loses 7 members in National Assembly

Soon after the tabling of a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan in the National Assembly, the number game is changed in the House on Monday.

According to the 24News HD TV channel, the number of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) coalition government has lost the favour of its seven members in the National Assembly.

The report said that the number of PTI coalition government members fell from 180 to 172 and the number of opposition members has increased from 162 to 170.

The report said that five members of the ruling coalition party—the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) have decided to support the opposition while Shahzain Bugti and two independent members have also left the government.

Currently, on the opposition benches in the National Assembly, the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) has 84 members, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) 56, Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) 15, Awami National Party (ANP) 1, Balochistan National Party (BNP) 4, and two independents.

On the other hand, on the treasury benches, there is a total of 156 members of the ruling PTI, 5 members of the Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q), 3 members of the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) and 1 member of the Awami Muslim League (AML).

In the current situation when the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM) has not yet decided whether to support the government or the opposition, the government has the support of just 165 members so far.
