The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) has demanded to make full court to hear the postponement of the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa elections case, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Tuesday.
The bar council in a press statement expressed concern over the division among Supreme Court judges.
The PBC held that a full court should hear the case to save the country from anarchy. “To maintain the dignity of the judiciary, political parties should avoid character assassination of judges, the PBC added.
It insisted upon abstaining from criticizing the judges while deliberating upon the judgments. “The judges should not be targeted.”
The bar observed that rules should be framed regarding the power of suo moto.
“To maintain the reputation and harmony of the judiciary, a committee should be constituted for the formation of benches,” the council stressed.
The Pakistan Bar Council further observed that the higher judiciary should not interfere in political matters for the supremacy of the constitution and the rule of law.
The PBC lamented that the suo moto regarding the elections in Punjab and KP was taken on a political issue.
The court should not have taken suo moto notice in the case related to the transfer of CCPO on the request of two judges, the Pakistan Bar Council hinted.
Taking suo moto notice on elections led to a controversial decision, which decreased the prestige of the judiciary, the bar council maintained.
