A novel episode of fraud was reported from Punjab University where students have complained that fraudsters have extorted money from their parents by telling them that their children were in police custody, send them cash otherwise their children will be sent to jail, reported 24News HD TV channel on Thursday.

The affected parents have contacted Punjab University administration and told them about the fraud incidents.

After the reports, the PU chief security officer has issued alert notice for students and their parents.

The PU chief security officer requested the students and their parents to contact the administration if any fraudulent person contacts them again.
