Four lady doctors suspended for ‘fun surgery’ at Lahore hospital
Punjab Secretary Specialized Health Azmat Mehmood Khan on Saturday suspended four lady doctors for making a “fun video” of patients in gynae department of Lady Willington Hospital in Lahore, reported 24News HD Channel.
The suspended doctors are Dr Tayyaba Fatima Toor, Dr Maham Ameen, Dr Zainab Tahir, and Dr Ayesha Afzal.
In the show-cause notice issued to the suspended doctors it was stated that such actions constitute a violation of medical ethics, an insult to patient dignity, and a breach of professional standards, all of which are strictly prohibited under government rules and hospital SOPs
The competent authority asked them to submit their replies regarding their carelessness.
Earlier, the Lady Willingdon Hospital Lahore's administration had launched an inquiry after a video circulating on social media appeared to show doctors displaying unprofessional conduct and competing to perform Caesarean sections on female patients in the gynaecology operating theatre.
The video also appeared to show serious lapses in patient privacy, with female patients’ confidentiality and dignity allegedly compromised inside the operating theatre.
It further raised questions about the apparent use of mobile phones in a restricted area, despite government rules banning phone use in operating theatres.
Hospital sources said such alleged negligence could pose serious risks to patients and had triggered concern in medical circles, particularly given the critical nature of surgical procedures involving mothers and newborns.
Following the footage's emergence, the hospital’s Medical Superintendent, Dr Farah, took notice and announced the formation of an inquiry committee to investigate all aspects of the incident.
“The committee will examine the video in detail, and strict legal action will be taken against those found responsible,” the Medical Superintendent said.
