Varun Dhawan opens up about daughter’s condition and inspiring recovery

Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan has shared a personal chapter of his life, revealing that his daughter Lara was diagnosed with Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH) when she was a toddler.

Speaking on the podcast Be A Man, Yaar!, the actor discussed the condition, its treatment, and the challenging months his daughter spent in a cast, while urging parents to stay attentive to early developmental signs in children.

Varun and his wife Natasha Dalal, who welcomed Lara in June 2024, revealed that the young child was diagnosed with DDH around the age of one and a half. DDH is a condition in which a child’s hip joint does not form properly, causing the hip to slip out of its socket.

This can lead to one leg appearing shorter than the other, creating an uneven gait and difficulties in walking or running. If left untreated, the condition may result in complications such as early-onset arthritis or spinal issues.

Fortunately, Lara did not require surgery. Doctors were able to correct the problem through a medical procedure that repositioned the hip joint.

However, she had to remain in a spica cast for 2.5 months a challenging experience for both the toddler and her parents. “She didn’t need surgery. With one procedure, they could put the hip back. But she had to be in a cast for 2.5 months, which is extremely difficult,” Varun shared.

Varun Dhawan and Natasha Dalal, married in 2021, have often expressed how parenthood has changed them.

Varun, in particular, has spoken about the joy of being a “girl dad” and the lengths he would go to ensure Lara’s happiness.
