The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf has moved to the Lahore High Court against Election Commission of Pakistan which has failed to issue notification for the success of five PTI MPAs on reserved seats which fell vacant after the disqualification of the party dissident members of Punjab Assembly by the commission itself, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
PTI parliamentary leader in the Punjab Assembly Sabtain Khan submitted the petition to the Lahore High Court on Saturday. The ECP has been made respondent in the petition.
The petition says that the PTI has already provided names to the election commission for their notification as party’s MPAs on reserved seats.
However, the ECP is not notifying them thus violating the rules and law by not doing so, the petition adds.
It states that letters have also been written to the ECP requesting it to issue notification but to no avail.
The petitioner requested the court to direct the ECP to immediately notify five members whose names the party has forwarded on reserved seats.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on May 20 had de-seated 25 dissident Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MPAs who voted for PML-N’s Hamza Shehbaz Sharif in Punjab chief minister election. Among this lot, there were five unelected MPAs who came to the assembly on reserved seats.
