Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has said the intelligence agencies have intercepted a telephonic conversation revealing a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf plot to ‘play victim card’.

According to intelligence agencies, the PTI plotted to stage a fake police raid involving killings and a rape drama, the minister said in a televised midnight address.

He said the PTI hatched the conspiracy to malign law-enforcement agencies and the state and it wanted to trigger an outcry in international media and human rights organizations by sharing the fake news.

He said it was feared that they (PTI members) were going to execute their plan tonight which was why it was important to inform the nation about their malicious intentions.

The group that Imran Khan created is extremist, he said, adding that stern action will be taken against the persons involved in attacking public properties and sensitive installations. He said the PTI riots hurt the sentiments of relatives of the martyrs.

The PTI activists took to the streets to vent their spleen against the arrest of Imran Khan in a corruption case on May 9.

The PTI mobsters also stormed GHQ in Rawalpindi, Corps Commander House in Lahore and Radio Pakistan in Peshawar. Riots claimed lives and left a trail of destruction.

The law enforcement agencies launched a hunt for the miscreants and made a number of arrests of the people involved in the May 9 riots.

The interior minister said the PTI leaders are the main conspirators behind May 9 riots. He reiterated the government's resolve to bring to book the culprits.

He added a handful of people that directly attacked the military installation would be tried under the Army Act whereas all the other rioters would be presented in civil courts.
