Polio team attacked in Ghotki, two lady health workers hurt

A man attacked two lady health workers (LHWs) who were performing their duties to administer polio drops in Ghotki, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel on Wednesday.
According to the details, the accused, identified as Aqil Ayaz, attacked and physically tortured the lady health workers, Naheed and Najma.
The incident took place in Gul Colony of Mirpur Mathelo City in interior Sindh. Soon after receiving the report of the incident, local police reached the site and arrested the accused.
Police also registered a case against the accused and started an investigation.
The Deputy Commissioner also took notice of the incident and summoned a detailed report from the relevant officials over the incident.
The third national polio campaign of the year 2025 has officially begun, with Prime Minister’s Focal Person on Polio Eradication, Ayesha Raza Farooq, administering oral polio drops to children to inaugurate the drive. 
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the launching ceremony was attended by representatives of international partners and senior leadership of the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC).
Scheduled to run from May 26 to June 1, the campaign aims to immunise over 45 million children across Pakistan. The NEOC has set this ambitious target as part of its mission to completely eradicate the poliovirus from the country.
It is pertinent to mention here that yesterday, on May 27, 2025, a policeman guarding a polio vaccination team was gunned down by unknown attackers in Balochistan’s Nushki district.
Nushki Deputy Commissioner (DC) Amjad Hussain Soomro confirmed the “unfortunate incident” to the media in which Waheed Ahmed was gunned down in Nushki’s Killi Muhammad Hassni district.
