The Multan district administration has placed containers around Qilla Qasim Bagh, the venue of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) public gathering on November 30.
Local police made a request to the district admin for arranging 60 containers. A report said 30 containers were placed in a bid to bar the activists, supporters, from participating in the event.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said the government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) continued with arresting PDM activists.
“These puppets are scared of jiyalas. Try as they might they cannot stop PPP from marking our foundation day along with PDM leaders on 30th November,” he tweeted.
The PPP chairman decided to address the rally through a video link as he was in isolation after contracting coronavirus.
The administration had turned down the opposition’s request for granting permission for the gathering citing a surge in coronavirus cases.
PPP’s Yousaf Raza Gilani has asked whether only PDM is bound to follow the law. Workers are being arrested from their houses, he claimed.
PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz said she would attend Multan meeting as her father instructed her to continue with movement of party supremo and ex-PM Nawaz Sharif.
Maryam Nawaz said in her statement that Nawaz Sharif had directed her to forget personal grief and participate in the rally.
Meanwhile, PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto has also decided to address the rally via videolink as he was gone into isolation after contracting coronavirus.
