The teachers of Thereek-e-Usatza staged a sit-in in front of election commission over the delay in announcing the results of the Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association (PPLA) elections.
They alleged that through an organized conspiracy, the commission was turning the victory of Thereek-e-Usatza in the elections into defeat.
Presidential candidate for Thereek-e-Usatza panel Professor Tariq Kaleem alleged that Chief Election Commissioner and Principal of Govt Islamia College Civil Lines Professor Rana Aslam Pervaiz has not been declaring the election results for last 17 days and there a conspiracy was brewing to change their eminent victory into the defeat.
He said the election commission was disrespecting the mandate given by the 1700 teachers of 680 colleges.
Despite the teachers' protest, the chief election commissioner left his office without announcing the results and declared that he would announce the result only when he would announce the result at his own convenience.
It may be mentioned that Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association elections were held on November 11 with Thereek-e-Usatza and Ittehad-e-Usatza being two main panels contesting the elections.
