Sonya Hussyn celebrates international win for Deemak in Russia
Sonya Hussyn has announced another global achievement for Pakistan after her film Deemak secured an award at the International Film Awards in Russia.
Taking to her Instagram stories, the actress shared the exciting update with her followers, writing, “Alhamdulillah! Another international honor for Pakistan. Deemak brings home an award from the International Film Awards in Russia.”
She expressed heartfelt gratitude for the recognition, adding, “I cannot thank Allah enough for His countless blessings.”
Fans and fellow celebrities congratulated Sonya for the milestone, celebrating the continued international appreciation for Pakistani cinema.
Earlier this year, Pakistani cinema made waves globally when Nayab and Deemak, two of the most talked-about recent releases, won significant awards at the prestigious Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Film Festival held in Chongqing, China.
Deemak, starring Faisal Qureshi, Samina Peerzada, and Sonya Hussyn, won the award for Best Editing.
Additionally, Sonya shared that she recently represented Pakistan during her visit to London, where she promoted Deemak and met Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the UK, Dr Mohammed Faisal.
Sharing moments from her visit on Instagram, she wrote, “Honoured to meet Dr. Mohammed Faisal, High Commissioner of Pakistan to the UK, during the promotional run for Deemak.”
Sonya said she discussed film budgets, global collaborations, and the need for Pakistani cinema to build stronger international partnerships, particularly with the UK.
“I truly believe Pakistan should be working on international partnerships, especially with the UK, to bring our stories to a wider global audience,” she noted.
She emphasized that such cooperation could help promote Pakistani stories worldwide and strengthen the country’s creative presence abroad.
In the current entertainment landscape, such interactions with senior diplomats are rare and often tied to cultural diplomacy efforts, highlighting the limited representation of artists on international platforms.
Based on true events, Deemak explores generational trauma, mental health, and family unity, aiming to bring socially relevant narratives to mainstream cinema.
