AJK PM approves upgradation of over 15,000 teaching posts ahead of possible government change

In a major move ahead of a possible change in government, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq has approved a long-awaited upgradation of thousands of teaching posts, a decision hailed as a historic step for the region’s education sector, reported 24newsHD TV channel Tuesday.

According to the official notification, the grades of elementary and junior computer teachers have been upgraded, fulfilling a long-standing demand of educators across AJK. A total of 15,043 posts have been upgraded from grade 11 to grade 14.

The AJK Finance Department has approved an expenditure of Rs 825.8 million for the implementation of the decision, while the Services and General Administration Department has issued an official notification confirming the move.

The decision was formally approved by the AJK Cabinet, which directed the Elementary and Higher Education Departments to ensure immediate implementation. The upgradation report will now be sent to the Cabinet Secretariat for the record.

Officials say thousands of teachers across Azad Kashmir will benefit financially from the upgradation — a move being described as a “revolutionary change” in the education sector.
