Naqvi calls on Iranian President, Pezzekiyan says Iran ready to mediate in Pak-Afghan differences

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi called on Iranian President Masoud Pezzekiyan on the sidelines of the 4th meeting of the ECO Interior Ministers in Tehran on Tuesday, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel. 

During the meeting, the Iranian President stressed the need to reduce tension in the region and avoid any conflict, saying that Iran is ready for all kinds of cooperation to resolve differences between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Masoud Pezeshkian called for efforts to strengthen scientific, cultural, economic, political, and security cooperation with Pakistan, describing the two neighbors’ relationship as exemplary and rooted in brotherhood and mutual trust.

In a meeting with Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on the sidelines of the 4th meeting of the ECO Interior Ministers in Tehran on Tuesday, Pezeshkian said the long-standing historical and religious bonds between the two nations have created a sense of deep fraternity.

He added that Iranians regard Pakistanis as their brothers and welcome the warm, friendly relations between the two countries. 

The president expressed hope that Naqvi’s visit would accelerate the implementation of previous agreements and bring tangible benefits to both nations. 

He also highlighted the importance of easing regional tensions and avoiding conflicts, reiterating Iran’s readiness to help mediate between Pakistan and Afghanistan. “Today, more than ever, Muslim countries must stand united in brotherhood against common threats,” the president said.

Naqvi, for his part, praised Iran’s hospitality and commended the successful organization of the ECO meeting. Referring to his fourth visit to Iran within a year, he said this frequency reflects the strength of bilateral ties and mutual understanding.

Interior Minister Naqvi described the issue of terrorism and illegal immigrants as common concerns of Iran and Pakistan, saying that fortunately, cooperation between the two countries in these areas has yielded useful results. Constructive negotiations are ongoing with the Afghan government and we emphasize the peaceful resolution of differences through dialogue. We must not allow tensions to escalate between countries in the region. 

The Pakistani minister also recalled Pezeshkian’s recent visit to Pakistan, describing relations between the two countries as excellent. He expressed optimism that existing agreements would soon yield practical results, noting encouraging progress in border management and counterterrorism cooperation.

Naqvi further pointed to constructive collaboration in combating terrorism and addressing illegal immigration, calling these efforts vital to regional stability. He also thanked Iran for its principled stance and its positive role in reducing tensions, particularly between Islamabad and Kabul, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining close and active cooperation with Iran.
