Bollywood actor criticised for mocking Pakistan cricket team online

Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan has come under heavy criticism from Pakistanis after mocking the national cricket team on social media, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.

The controversy began during a cricket talk show when former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar mistakenly referred to Indian top-order batter Abhishek Sharma as “Abhishek Bachchan.” 

Akhtar commented that if Pakistan dismissed “Bachchan” early, India’s middle order might struggle, sparking laughter in the studio before he was corrected.

The slip quickly went viral online, prompting Abhishek Bachchan to react on the platform “X,” where he jokingly wrote that it was impossible for him to be playing cricket, admitting he wasn’t good at the sport anyway.

However, his sarcasm backfired among Pakistani fans, who criticised the actor sharply. 

Many users reminded him that not only cricket but several other areas were “not his strong suit.”  
Others mocked his acting career, suggesting he owed his place in Bollywood only to his family name.

Some fans even quipped that Pakistani cricketers could act better than him, turning the humour back on the star.

In the end, Pakistani supporters expressed hope that the national side would answer with performances on the pitch, avenging their two recent defeats against India in the ongoing tournament.
