Another rain spell forecast for country, including Lahore, from May 2

Westerly winds will enter the country on May 2 under the impact of which different parts of the country, including Lahore, would receive rains, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

Speaking to the 24News TV channel, Deputy Director Met Saqib Hussain said that under the impact of the system, rains, accompanied by winds, were expected to lash Lahore until May 5.

However, after May 5, he added, temperatures would begin to rise.

“Due to the phenomenon of El Niño, May and June would be the hottest months of the ongoing year,” he said, adding that daytime temperature in the Punjab capital during the last 10 days of May was likely to exceed 45 degrees Celsius, and there were also chances of a heatwave.

Hussain advised people to avoid stepping out of their homes during daytime in order to avoid exposure to intense heat.

He also predicted that temperatures would rise further in years to come.

He said that there were 30 per cent chances of rain in the city today.

Light rain in Lahore and its adjoining areas in the early hours of Wednesday turned the weather pleasant, reducing the intensity of the prevailing heat. 

However, the rainfall also suspended the supply of electricity to different parts of the city as several feeders of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) tripped.

According to reports, rain was recorded in various areas, including Defence, Ghazi Road, Ferozepur Road, Walton, Mall Road, Lakshmi Chowk, Gulshan Ravi, Jail Road, Gulberg, Garden Town, Kalima Chowk and Sanda.

The speed of the wind as recorded on Wednesday morning was 11 kilometers per hour, while the moisture in the air stood at 58 percent.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecast that the rain spell was likely to continue during the day.

Islamabad to receive rain today

Weather in Islamabad is to remain cloudy today, with chances of thundershowers at a few places either in the evening or at night.

The minimum temperature recorded in Islamabad on Wednesday morning was 20 degrees centigrade, which may rise to 32 degrees centigrade during the day.

Winds were blowing at the speed of 13 kilometers per hour.

Heat persists in Karachi

While on one hand, different parts of Punjab and Sindh have received rain during the last couple of days, resulting in drop in temperatures, it has been hot and humid in Karachi for the last several days as the maximum temperature in the port city is expected to touch the 36 degrees Celsius mark in the afternoon.

The minimum temperature recorded in the city on Wednesday morning was 27 degrees Celsius.

The Met Office said that 81 per cent humidity in the air would increase the intensity of heat.

Winds were blowing from the south-west at the speed of 11 kilometers per hour.

More rain predicted 

The Met Office predicted rainfall for different parts of Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and upper Khyber Pukhtunkhwa during the next 24 hours.
