Former Hyderabad mayor Aftab Sheikh passes away

Former Mayor of Hyderabad, ex-Senator and former Deputy Convener Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan Aftab Sheikh Advocate passed away on Saturday in Karachi, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Aftab Sheikh was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Karachi after he was seriously injured in a road accident, MQM-Pakistan said.
He was Mayor of Hyderabad from 1987 to 1992.
In a tweet, MQM-Pakistan leader Faisal Subzwari said, “A brave, intelligent, knowledgeable star of Pakistani politics has died. Former Deputy Convener, Former Mayor of Hyderabad, Former Senator Aftab Ahmed Sheikh passed away.”
“Aftab Bhai, I am always grateful to you for informing Khaksar about the constitution and laws,” he said while paying tribute to the late Mayor of Hyderabad.

Earlier, MQM-Pakistan convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and coordination committee members prayed for the early recovery of the party’s senior leader and former Hyderabad mayor Aftab Ahmed Shaikh. Expressing sympathies with the family, Siddiqui telephoned Shaikh’s son and inquired after his health, the party said in a statement.
A large number of party workers and elected representatives from Hyderabad visited the hospital.
