NA Speaker for stronger Pak-Ireland parliamentary ties

Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq says parliamentary diplomacy can play an instrumental role in addressing shared challenges, particularly in the areas of climate resilience and disaster management.

He was talking to Ireland Ambassador Ms. Mary O'Neill, who called on him in Islamabad today. 

Welcoming the Ambassador, the Speaker underscored the importance of strengthening parliamentary linkages between the two countries, stating that such exchanges are vital for fostering bilateral cooperation. 

Highlighting the recent devastation caused by floods, Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said that Pakistan, despite contributing only 0.6 percent to global carbon emissions, is among the most severely affected countries by climate change. He added that the destruction from the ongoing floods has surpassed the devastation caused by the 2022 deluge.

The Ireland Ambassador expressed sorrow over the loss of lives and property caused by the floods and assured her country's full support for the rehabilitation of the flood-affected population.

She also lauded the role of the Pakistani diaspora in Ireland, particularly their notable contributions in the health sector, describing their services as commendable.
