Citizen moves court against beauty salon charges sans bridal makeup

December 29, 2020 01:04 PM

A citizen in Karachi has initiated legal proceedings against a salon for not returning the advance payment despite the fact that the services for bridal makeup were not extended to his daughter, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.

It is the consumer court in Karachi’s south district which has been moved on the issue after which a notice was issued to the Zara’s Salon, directing it to submit a reply on January 7.

In the application, the citizen said that the wedding of his daughter was planned before the coronavirus pandemic and they had ensured advance booking for makeup with the Zamzama branch of Zara’s Salon while also paying the required amount.

But, he said, the salon was closed after the lockdown. As a result, they held the marriage ceremony with simplicity.

According to the applicant, they later contacted the salon for returning the advance money; however, the management refused to entertain their request, saying “they do not refund in any circumstances”.

Requesting the court for imposing a hefty fine on this salon so that other citizens are not treated in a similar fashion in the future, the applicant noted that how they could charge them for service which wasn’t provided. The salon management misbehaved with them for which legal action should be taken against them, he said.

It is a welcoming sign that more and more people are approaching the consumer courts to protect their rights as the concept of consumer rights is still mostly alien to our society.

Earlier this month, another consumer court in the city issued notices to a large departmental store chain and the manufacturer of a washing machine, asking them to submit their replies by December 17, as a citizen filed a complaint over supplying a machine that soon became out-of-order.

Similarly, a man could not see his wife being dejected and moved the court, demanding action against a shopkeeper for selling a faulty shoe that had not only broken into pieces but also triggered a heartbreak.
