New strain of coronavirus reaches Pakistan

The Sindh Health Department Tuesday confirmed a new strain of coronavirus in three people in the provincial capital, Karachi. The infections caused by the new variant were earlier found in the United Kingdom.
A total of 12 samples of the UK returnees were taken for genotyping out, the department said in a tweet. It added six people were tested positive and the rest showed the new variant of Covid-19 in the first phase and the genotyping showed 95 per cent match of the new variant from the UK. The samples will go through another phase of genotyping while the contact tracing was in process.

The infected persons reached Karachi from the UK via Dubai. These people were taken to the Agha Khan Hospital from their homes. Samples of family and friends of the patients were also taken so that they could get through the test.
