Number plates in Punjab to be allotted to car, motorcycle owners
What can be termed a big decision, now number plates in Punjab, including Lahore, will not be allotted to cars and motorcycles, but to their owners due to security reasons, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
According to the excise officials, in the event of a sale of a car or a motorcycle, the previous owner will keep their number plates, while the new owner will either obtain a new number or will display an existing number plate on a car or a motorcycle.
The officials have informed that the owners will have to pay an additional fee, ranging from Rs5,00 to Rs8,000, in case they decide to display old number plates on their cars and motorcycles.
They have further said that a summary for the new system has been sent to the Punjab government, and that implementation on the new system will begin in the first week of the next month.
