Punjab govt declares all parks as ‘no smoking zones’

In a bid to save the young generation from the menace of smoking, the Punjab government has declared all parks of the province as “no smoking zones”, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday. 

After directives from Secretary Housing Noorul Amin Mengal, a notification has been issued in this regard. As per the notification ban on smoking in parks was imposed as per sections 5 and 7 of the Prohibition of Smoking and Protection of Non-Smokers' Health Ordinance 2002.

The ban is also imposed on the usage and sale of tobacco items, including e-cigarettes. A complete ban is also imposed on the sale of cigarettes in Tuck Shops, cafes, and other vending points located in parks.  

No-smoking boards and other instructions will also be displayed on different locations of the parks. The staff and other relevant persons will keep monitoring the situation.

The relevant authorities are given a deadline of ten days for implementation on rules and regulations.

Earlier today, Secretary Housing Nooorul Amin Mengal visited Bagh-e-Jinnah, and Punjab Horticulture Authority (PHA) Director-General Raja Mansoor was also present on the occasion.

Talking on the occasion, Noorul Amin Mengal said that Bagh-e-Jinnah is our historical and cultural heritage, so it must reflect its identity.

He directed to placement of fiber boards and organic materials in the parks. Noorul Amin Mengal said that the implementation of all rules must be ensured.

He said that providing the best environment to visiting families and to people who use this place for exercise is our duty.

Noorul Amin Mengal said that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed to make all parks more attractive and sustainable.
