Kallar railway bridge damaged: Shalimar Express suspended for one month
Pakistan Railways has suspended the operation of the Shalimar Express for one month following damage to a railway bridge caused by floodwaters, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
The Shalimar Express operates between Lahore and Karachi via Faisalabad. However, train operations between Lahore and Faisalabad have been halted after the Qila Sattar Shah-Misan Kallar railway bridge was affected by floodwater.
The Shalimar Express is operated with the cooperation of the private sector and is among Pakistan Railways’ premium train services.
Meanwhile, the route of another major train service, the Karakoram Express, has also been changed.
The train, which previously travelled from Lahore to Karachi via Faisalabad, will now operate through Sahiwal due to the disruption on the affected section.
Railway authorities have taken measures to manage passenger movement while repair work and assessments are carried out on the damaged infrastructure.
