Mahira Khan backs Khaqan Shahnawaz's take on Aurat March
Pakistani actress Mahira Khan has shown support for actor Khaqan Shahnawaz's views on the Aurat March by re-sharing a clip from his podcast appearance on her Instagram story.
In the podcast, Khaqan gave a statment that critics often focus on the wording of Aurat March slogans instead of addressing the serious issues the movement raises that include acid attacks, femicide and the denial of basic rights to women.
"The Aurat March fights for things that are so big... like women having acid thrown on them, femicide happening in Pakistan, and women not even receiving basic rights," he said.
He added that the movement continues to speak openly about these issues and questioned why some people choose to "police their language" rather than engage with the larger problems being highlighted.
Mahira re-shared the podcast clip on her Instagram story with adding hand clapping emoji.
The shared story also featured an Aurat March poster reading, "There is no honor in murder", alongside the message "Stop Femicide."
Every day, women around the world face many forms of violence, including domestic abuse, sexual harassment, workplace discrimination, acid attacks, forced marriages, honour-based crimes and online abuse.
Despite growing awareness, millions continue to suffer in silence, making it crucial to speak up, seek justice and work towards a safer and more equal society.
