Aussie stylist slams Kim Kardashian’s show-stopping appearance

Kim Kardashian’s show-stopping appearance at Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez’s extravagant Italian wedding celebration has sparked criticism from a prominent Australian stylist.

Fashion expert Chris Kontos, known for his bold takes and decades-long career in the fashion industry, took to Instagram on Saturday to share a fiery video critique of Kardashian’s daring gown.

The reality TV star and fashion mogul arrived in a glistening, body-hugging black dress with a plunging neckline, paired with layered diamond accessories and her signature sleek hairstyle.

However, Kontos was far from impressed. “All right. I have to say it – Kim needs to move on from the Balenciaga era,” Kontos said in the clip, referencing Kardashian’s longtime collaboration with designer Demna. “Demna is in an exhibition – it’s done. When something’s exhibited, it means it’s the end. It’s like a period in time. We’re reflecting.”

While acknowledging that edgy fashion houses like Rick Owens still carry influence, Kontos implied Kim’s look felt outdated and possibly attention-seeking.

“Do you reckon she’s trying to get the attention away from that woman that’s getting married, whatever her name is?” he added, referring to the bride, Lauren Sanchez.

The stylist, who has worked with brands like Acler, Harris Scarfe, and Jac + Mooki, and served as Creative Director for the Adelaide Fashion Festival, didn’t hold back in suggesting Kardashian should pivot to her own brand.

“Maybe she should wear some of that collaboration she did with SKIMS and Cavalli – because that fits the vibe,” Kontos said.

Despite his critique, Kontos did offer a nod of approval to other Kardashian-Jenner family members in attendance. “I mean, Kris looks amazing and Kylie’s delivering rose vibes anyway,” he noted.

Kim’s gown quickly made headlines as she arrived at the venue, but Kontos’ comments have now added a controversial twist to the weekend's fashion narrative.
