Suspension of 26 MPAs: Opp loses power to convene PA session

The suspension of 26 members has placed the opposition in the Punjab Assembly in a fresh dilemma, stripping it of the power to file a requisition to call a session.

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, out of a total of 105 opposition members in the Punjab Assembly, the suspension has brought the number down to 79.

As per parliamentary rules, at least 93 signatures are required on a requisition to convene a session.

With the suspended members currently barred from proceedings, the opposition no longer meets the minimum threshold to request an assembly meeting.

Until the suspended members are reinstated, the opposition will remain unable to submit a formal requisition.
