Next Punjab CM to be from opposition, claims Zardari

Govt ally Aslam Bhootani joins opposition ahead of no-confidence motion

PPP Co-Chairperson Asif Ali Zardari Tuesday claimed the next Punjab Chief Minister will also be from the opposition ranks as they have the required numbers (for electing a new CM) and not the ruling party.

He was addressing a press conference alongside government ally Aslam Bhootani who announced to join the opposition ranks in a joint press conference with leading opposition figures in Islamabad.

Aslam Bhootani is an elected independent MNA from NA-272 (Lesbela-cum-Gwadar) who got 68,804 votes in 2018 general elections.

Earlier, BAP Parliamentary Leader Khalid Magsi had said that his party would support the Opposition's no-confidence motion.

"We want the country to be handled anew [...] we want the issues to be resolved," the BAP leader, whose party has four MNAs, said while addressing a press conference alongside Opposition's bigwigs — PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif, PDM chief Fazlur Rehman, Asif Ali Zardari, and PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Monday.

The setback came only a day after Special Assistant to PM (SAPM) on Reconciliation and Harmony in Balochistan and Jamhoori Watan Party leader Shahzain Bugti announced to part ways with the government and join the Opposition.

Bhootani said Zardari has obliged him on many occasions and as new elections are round the corners everyone has to see what is beneficial for him.

Bilawal Bhutto thanked Bhootani for posing confidence in them and also congratulated him for becoming a part of the joint opposition.

Zardari said it was a norm to keep contacting the political leaders.

He said considering the situation in the country they wanted to take along all the parties.

He said PML-Q was ready to work along with the opposition.

“Ask them, they come to congratulate us in the night and go somewhere else in the morning,” bemoans Zardari.

Zardari said everyone should play a due role to save the country.

He claimed that they were considering the betterment of the country and not focusing on getting into power.

Zardari said soon good news will be announced regarding MQM.

On a question that if someone was playing a double game with him, Zardari said it was a usual thing as it remains always so.

Haideri demanded PM Imran Khan render his resignation. Sadiq said Imran and Pakistan cannot go ahead together and claimed that the number of votes against the government will surprise all.

He alleged that Imran has damaged the country to an extent to which even the enemy of the country could not achieve.
