Pentagon prepares limited ground raids in Iran near Kharg Island

The United States is preparing for potential ground operations near Kharg Island, according to a report by The Washington Post, amid escalating tensions in the region.

Citing US officials, the report said the Pentagon has been making preparations for several weeks for possible ground action inside Iran. However, it remains unclear whether President Donald Trump will approve the deployment of ground troops.

The report indicated that any such operations would likely be limited in scope and not constitute a full-scale invasion. Instead, they would involve targeted raids carried out by special operations forces alongside conventional infantry units.

US military assets in the region have also been reinforced. More than 4,000 US Marines are currently deployed aboard naval vessels heading towards the Gulf, while paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne Division have been placed on standby.

The developments point to a potential escalation in US military posture, though the absence of a final decision underscores the uncertainty surrounding Washington’s next move.
