Two more doctors died of coronavirus in Punjab, as the number of new cases and the death toll is rising at an alarming rate in the country, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.

One of them was Dr Sana, who worked at a private hospital in Lahore. She contracted the virus while treating coronavirus patients.

She was under treatment at the General Hospital after testing positive for the virus, where she breathed her last on Friday.

On the other hand, Dr Naeem Akhtar was referred to the Services Hospital in Lahore due to his worsening condition.

Dr Naeem – a senior psychiatrist – was serving at the Social Security Hospital, Gujranwala. He was initially rushed to the DHQ Hospital but later sent to Lahore.

The two latest deaths in Punjab were reported after two of their colleagues died in Quetta and Peshawar during the past 24 hours.

In Quetta, Dr Zubair Ahmed, was performing his duties at the trauma centre in Bolan Medical Complex Hospital.

A few days back, the doctor had started showing the coronavirus symptoms after which he was admitted in the Fatima Jinnah Hospital where he breathed his last.

On the other hand, a doctor admitted in Khyber Teaching Hospital, Peshawar0 died of COVID-19, raising the number of doctors dying of the virus in the province to three.

Dr Khanzada Shinwari, 45, was serving at Shifa Medical Centre in Hangu where he got the infection while performing his duties, said sources in Khyber Teaching Hospital.

According to the sources, he was shifted to Khyber Teaching Hospital and admitted in an isolation ward on May 20 due to his worsening condition.

Shinwari is the third doctor whose life was claimed the coronavirus. Previously, Dr Javed of Hayatabad Medical Complex and Dr Ashraf Gul of the main hospital in the Sadda town of Kurram district.
